May 18, 2023 - George Paresishvili, the CEO of the Republican Stock Exchange "Toshkent" (RSE “Toshkent”), participated in the panel discussion on the topic of Capital Market Development in Uzbekistan held at the EBRD Annual Meeting 2023 in Samarkand. He spoke about upcoming IPOs and emphasized importance of improving corporate governance and limiting government’s role at state-owned companies as a prerequisite for a successful IPO. According to George, the work on setting up links with international central securities depositaries such as Clearstream and global custodian banks is in progress and once completed, will enable easy access of foreign investors to Uzbek capital market.

During Q&A session George Paresishvili addressed issues such as setting the right price range for future IPOs and the role of the regulator of securities market in protecting rights of minority shareholders of Uzbek companies.
